Call for Artists & Illustrators!!!
Request for Proposal (RFP)
Project Title: (Working Title) A 31-Day Children’s Devotional
Issue Date: March 23, 2026
Submission Deadline: April 13, 2026
Overview
Reformed Fellowship is a nonprofit organization committed to promoting Reformed theology through Christ-centered resources for the church and the home. We invite qualified illustrators to submit their credentials for consideration in illustrating a forthcoming book project, a collection of 31 devotions written for elementary ages (approximately ages 7-11). The project aims to present rich biblical truths in a way that is engaging and compelling for young readers. An excerpt of the work is available for review.
Artistic Vision
We are seeking an illustrator (or illustrators) who can embody a “classic yet modern” aesthetic. This includes:
- A timeless visual sensibility that draws from traditional illustration styles
- Clean, approachable composition suitable for contemporary readers
- Warmth, clarity, and emotional resonance appropriate for children
- The ability to visually support devotional themes such as Scripture, prayer, nature, and everyday life
The final artwork should feel enduring rather than trendy, with a cohesive visual language across all 31 devotions.
Scope of Work
The selected illustrator will be expected to:
- Produce approximately 20 to 31 spot or half-page illustrations (up to one per devotion)
- Collaborate with the editorial team to align visuals with text themes
- Provide preliminary sketches for review and approval
- Deliver final artwork in print-ready digital formats
- Adhere to an agreed-upon production schedule
Additional elements (e.g., cover design, chapter openers, or decorative elements) may be discussed.
Qualifications
Prior work with faith-based publishers is welcome but not required. Ideal candidates will demonstrate:
- Facility with traditional, digital, or hybrid media
- Ability to depict human figures, natural settings, and symbolic elements
- Responsiveness to editorial feedback and collaborative processes, and a familiarity with Christian themes
Submission Requirements
Interested illustrators should submit:
- Portfolio (PDF or link to online gallery)
- Artist Statement (brief description of style and approach)
- Resume or CV highlighting relevant experience
- Availability Timeline for the upcoming year
- Estimated Fee Structure (range or general approach)
- Sample Sketch based on provided excerpt
Submissions and all inquiries may be directed to Hope Staal at executive.editor@reformedfellowship.net.
We look forward to discovering artists who can help bring this devotional work to life with beauty, clarity, and faithfulness.
