Take advantage of this excellent resource for training new and experienced elders and deacons. Sixteen chapters cover topics such as the qualifications of elders and deacons, their duties and tasks, the history of the Reformed churches, infant baptism, the Lord's Supper, worship, rules for meetings, church discipline, family visitation, and the ministry of mercy. A plan and study guide incorporate readings from Scripture and the confessions. Includes recommendations for building a basic elder's library.

Reader comments

We are using "Called to Serve" as our basis for office bearer training during our monthly Council meeting, one chapter per month.  I have used this resource in this way in all the churches that I have served ever since it first came out. The men find it easy to read, and yet very instructive for the tasks set before them as Elders and Deacons in God's Church. I would highly recommend it.

Great Overview

This book helped in laying out the responsibilities and requirements of elders and deacons. Was a great learning tool.

Disappointing!

I ordered two books on 20 August and have still not received anything on 5 Sep 2020. Disappointing!

Dear Hendrik,

We are sorry to hear about the delay. I have checked the tracking and it is still in transit. Because of COVID, the mailing companies are short staffed due to demand and shipping has been taking much longer than expected. I sincerely apologize for your wait.
