Each of the sixteen pastors who contributed to this work believes that the entire Old Testament, including the Psalms, is inspired by Christ’s Spirit and all of it points forward in some deliberate and meaningful way to the coming of God in the flesh, the Lord Jesus Christ.

To be sure, each psalm has its own immediate context and meaning connected to the human author and his experiences. These are taken seriously and explained in the Study Resource. Yet because of the Spirit’s inspiration, there is much more going on than just human events and emotions. The Bible is God’s self-revelation and the arrival of the Lord Jesus is the pinnacle of that revelation, the wonderful event anticipated throughout the Old Testament period. For that reason, the authors set out to find the connection to Christ in every psalm. This effort finds support in the fact that the book of Psalms is the most-quoted and alluded to Old Testament book by New Testament writers, many times in direct connection to the Savior.

CHRIST IN EVERY PSALM

This is the one aspect that is lacking in many works on the Psalms. Think of it as a lingering soak for your soul in the Word of God. It’s ideal for group Bible study but also perfectly suitable for you on your own or with a good friend.

How does it work? First, you’ll need a Bible in hand and be ready to flip through the Scriptures consulting other passages. Second, you’ll be encouraged to begin and end each day’s study with prayer. And then you dive into the questions which are set up to guide you in understanding the psalm (sometimes a pair of them) by searching Scripture for the background, or key words, or similar teaching elsewhere. Day 1 has you exploring the wider context of the psalm while Day 2 will help you observe its details and what significance they may hold. On Day 3 you will unpack the author’s meaning and then on Day 4 see more pointedly how Christ is revealed. Day 5 brings it all to a conclusion by focusing on how the message may bring change to your perspective, attitude, and lifestyle as a follower of Christ.

Check out sample pages here!

Looking for more resources? Robert R. I recently preached on the glorious Psalm 139. This devotional was exceptionally helpful. I have the “study resource” volumes as well and can’t recommend this set highly enough. I’ve never seen anything quite like it. Theological, pastoral, devotional, substantive, historical, all in one fantastic set. I will be now consulting the devotional volume, and resource set as my first go-to for any collateral reading on the Psalms. Many thanks for this labor of love!
Dear Robert -
Thank you for this glowing review. We rejoice that the Lord has blessed you through this work, and pray through you He will bless many more for His kingdom.
