Peter Martyr Vermigli: A Teacher of Truth

Peter Martyr Vermigli was born in Florence, Italy, in 1499, and from a young age he longed to teach God’s Word. After years of study, he rose to prominence as a respected leader in the Roman Catholic Church. Yet as he read the Bible more deeply, he began to question some of the church’s teachings.

When his convictions could no longer be silenced, Vermigli made a bold choice—he left his high position and fled Italy to join the Protestant Reformers north of the Alps. From that day on, he devoted himself to preaching, teaching, and writing about the truths of the Reformation.

Traveling across Europe, he influenced many of the most important leaders of his time and helped shape the church in powerful ways.
