Patrick of Ireland: From Slave to Missionary

Today, Patrick’s name is often tied to parades and legends—but his real story is far more powerful!

As a wealthy young man in Britain, Patrick never expected his life to change so suddenly. But when raiders captured him and sold him as a slave in pagan Ireland, everything he knew was stripped away. Alone and suffering, Patrick began to seek God—and found His mercy in the midst of hardship.

After escaping back home, Patrick did something unexpected: he returned to Ireland—not for revenge, but to share the gospel with the very people who had enslaved him. His life of devotion was used to change the culture of an entire people, and his careful thinking about the Trinity helped the church of his time to better understand the God they worshipped.

Beautifully illustrated and inspiringly told, this story shows how God used Patrick’s trials to prepare him for a life of courage and faith. Young readers will learn that even in difficult times, the joy of the Lord gives strength to serve others.
