As a wealthy young man in Britain, Patrick never expected his life to change so suddenly. But when raiders captured him and sold him as a slave in pagan Ireland, everything he knew was stripped away. Alone and suffering, Patrick began to seek God—and found His mercy in the midst of hardship.

After escaping back home, Patrick did something unexpected: he returned to Ireland—not for revenge, but to share the gospel with the very people who had enslaved him. His life of devotion was used to change the culture of an entire people, and his careful thinking about the Trinity helped the church of his time to better understand the God they worshipped.

About the Author

Simonetta Car was born in Italy and has lived and worked in different cultures. A former elementary school teacher, she home-schooled her eight children for many years. She has written for newspapers and magazines around the world and has translated the works of several Christian authors from Italian to English, and vice-versa. Presently, she lives in San Diego with her husband Thomas and one of their eight children. She is a member at Christ United Reformed Church.
