John Newton: From Rebel to Redeemed

John Newton’s life reads like an adventure story—filled with daring voyages, dangerous storms, faraway lands, and even a little romance. Young readers will be swept up in his travels across the seas and the many twists and turns of his exciting life.

But the greatest adventure wasn’t on the ocean—it was in his heart. Even while trying to run from God, Newton was pursued by unstoppable grace. Through rebellion, hardship, and failure, God patiently drew him back.

In this beautifully written and illustrated book, readers will see how Newton’s life was transformed, leading him to write one of the most beloved hymns of all time: Amazing Grace.

His story reminds us that no one is too lost for God to save—and that His grace truly is amazing.

“Do you love a really good story? Well, here is one! Simonetta Carr tells us about the extraordinary life of one of our greatest hymn writers, John Newton. We can trace God’s hand on his path as a neglected youth, an ardent lover, an ill-treated servant, a reckless sailor, and a slave trader. At last we learn how he became one of our finest Christian preachers. Read it and find out.”
—Faith Cook, author of Our Hymn Writers and Their Hymns
